DESCRIPTION
Built for the long day out, when distance matters more than the sprint.
The Sherman L pairs the motor, controller and FastAce suspension of LeaperKim's Lynx with a 4000 Wh battery. That makes it the distance wheel of the family: you plan the ride around where you want to go, not where you can charge. Rides of more than 160 km on one charge are within reach, and the torque stays strong and smooth at every speed, taking most climbs in stride.
At 46.5 kg it is a full-size touring machine, happiest at a steady cruise, where the weight turns into calm. Beside the lighter, harder-pulling Lynx S it trades punch for distance; the ORYX goes further still, in a bigger and heavier format. For long tours and big mixed commutes, when the day ahead is measured in hours, this is the one to take.
RESERVE FOR THE LAST CLIMB
The 4000 Wh pack of Samsung 50S cells means a hill at the end of a long tour still meets a battery with plenty left in it, not a rider counting percentages.
A SPRING FOR YOUR WEIGHT
The mid-mounted FastAce shock comes with three spring rates. Matched to your weight, it keeps a big wheel composed over rough patches, and the damping can be fine-tuned afterward.
BALANCE IF A SENSOR FAILS
If a motor hall sensor drops out, the controller keeps the wheel balancing, so you can slow down and stop under control. Treat it as a way home and have the fault checked.
OVERNIGHT OR IN A LONG BREAK
The supplied 5 A charger needs about 6 h, which suits charging overnight. A second 5 A charger halves that, and the wheel accepts up to 20 A with a suitable charger, not supplied.

QUESTIONS
The battery is the point of this wheel, and you roll it along on every ride. If most of your rides last an hour or two, the Lynx S keeps the 20-inch format and FastAce suspension at 42.5 kg and pulls harder. The Sherman L earns its place when long days are your normal riding, not the exception.
Lighter riders and commuters usually get on best with the 62 lb spring, mid-weight riders with the 66 lb, and heavier riders or anyone landing drops with the 70 lb. Fit the spring first, then adjust the shock. Riders close to the 120 kg limit who also ride off-road may find even the firmest spring on the soft side.
At walking pace you feel its width and mass, and the tire tends to follow grooves and ruts until you are rolling. On flat ground the trolley handle moves it easily. Getting it into a car trunk is a two-handed lift most riders would rather avoid, so a ramp, a lift or ground-floor storage helps.
The ORYX moves to a 22-inch wheel with 4700 Wh at 176.4 V and weighs 57 kg. It suits riders who want even more distance and the calm of a bigger tire, and will live with its size. The Sherman L keeps 20-inch handling and about 10 kg less to manage, with a range that already covers most touring days.
